When megalomaniacs congregate, bigotry will rear its ugly head and to compete with each other to attain the status of most importance is the name of the game. This instinctive characteristic of life becomes dangerous when it is driven by avarice.
When politicians who are voted by the people to hold high office show such characteristic traits, then the obsessions for power and wealth become the yardstick for further pursuance of more power.
When self-interest prevails, the people will suffer through polarisation, marginalisation or even sheer neglect.
What about the common people then? Polarisation will be evident and this will hit where it hurts the most when people begin to dislike someone because of the color of someone’s skin, or where they are from. Adults setting standard for their children on the choice of whom to mix will add to the insidious spread of mistrust to fuel polarization even deeper into the fabrics of the multi-racial society.
There are great, loving, caring people of every race, culture, religion. There are also ignorant, mean spirited, cruel people from every race, culture and religion. To many who care about another irrespective of what race or religion they come from, it has to take character and honesty. It cannot be denied that there are racists in every race and it will be difficult to eliminate the hate in people when it becomes too strong.
When it comes to an important event to be remembered and treasured, solidarity will be the ultimate answer. Solidarity is the power to act collectively to support people who are in need to break free from whatever the fetters are. We can see individuals and groups practising moral and social virtues will take the trouble to foster themselves in social living. Then, under the necessary help of divine grace, there will arise a generation of new women and men, the molders of a new humanity.
We all need to love and be loved. Unfortunately, sometimes we are so obsessed with other things that we forget how beautiful it is to love and be loved through relationships. We often think only about ourselves that we forget the joy of giving. By giving, life will be wonderful!
A genuine relationship is all about giving your time, attention, money, or just a smile. And believe it or not, there is great joy in a simple smile. The most effective way to give lasting impact to others is by building relationships with them. Be their friend and care about them, and they will listen to you and respect your opinions.
When people face difficult times, they need other people to support them. When the world looks dark and the problem looks big, nothing is more valuable than the support of people we are with. Then the journey will become much easier!
We thank our friends in Kirling for inviting us to pray together for divine help for those detained under the draconian law. This is the solidarity that is in the dire need and we have to realise now that we all have to live as ONE.
The beauty of solidarity comes from food too. Let us put the smiles on our faces on how those Anak Anak Bangsa have their feast.
