Teoh Beng Hock, 30, political secretary to Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on July 16 on level 5 of Plaza Masalam after giving a statement as a witness into alleged abuse of state government allocation at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office.
This lead to an outcry from the Malaysian public. A memorial for Teoh were held on 23/07/2007 at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall to seek justice for Teoh Beng Hock. Below were the video clip of the event.

Raub, Bukit Koman residents expose to Cynaide

Villagers of Bukit Koman in Raub today failed in their bid to stop a goldmine from carrying out its activities which were causing environmental damages and health concerns.
The 3,000 plus villagers, represented by the Action Committee Against the Use of Cyanide, had wanted to seek leave from the High Court to pursue their claim against Raub Goldmining Sdn Bhd.
They had wanted the company to provide a detailed environment impact assessment report and to stop the project.
However Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Lau Bee Lan dismissed their application on the grounds that the application was made out of time.
The judge ruled that the Department of Environment had already approved the preliminary environment impact assessment report in 1997 and had issued a license to the company to operate.
"The court also cannot force the company to make a DEIA now as the time frame had elapsed," Lau ruled.

It is also possible to breathe or eat cyanide dust when working with cyanide powder. If people use a contaminated water supply, they can breathe cyanide when they cook or shower with the water.
Drinking/Eating: Cyanide is sometimes found in contaminated drinking water. People can be exposed when they drink contaminated water. People who handle contaminated soil may be exposed when they eat or touch their mouths with dirty hands.
Touching: Cyanide can enter the body through skin when people handle the chemical, contaminated soil or contaminated water. People can be exposed to cyanide if they wash or bathe with contaminated water.
DO STANDARDS EXIST FOR REGULATING CYANIDE?
Water: The federal drinking water standard for cyanide is set at 200 parts per billion (ppb). We suggest you stop drinking water containing more than 200 ppb of cyanide.
Air: No standards exist for the amount of cyanide allowed in the air of homes. We use a formula to convert workplace limits to suggested home limits. Based on the formula, we recommend cyanide levels be no higher than 90 ppb. Most people can’t smell cyanide until levels reach 600 ppb. Cyanide compounds smell like bitter almonds to some people, while others cannot smell them at all. If you can smell the chemical, the level is too high to be safe.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources regulates the amount of cyanide that can be released by industries.
WILL EXPOSURE TO CYANIDE RESULT IN HARMFUL HEALTH EFFECTS?
The following health effects are described in cases of suicide or accidental exposure to high levels of cyanide compounds. These effects are not expected following low-dose exposures:
* Irritation of skin and mucous membranes (causing redness or flushing of skin)
* Headaches, dizziness and loss of coordination
* Nausea and vomiting
* Rapid, deep breathing or gasping
* Rapid pulse rate and increased blood pressure
* Muscle spasms and convulsions
* Loss of consciousness and death.
The following health effects can occur after several years of exposure to low levels of cyanide:
Reproductive Effects: Studies of laboratory animals show exposure to cyanide resulted in birth defects.
Organ Systems: Cyanide can cause nerve damage affecting hearing, vision, and muscle coordination. Damage to the thyroid gland is also possible, resulting in changes of metabolism in adults and slowing growth or development in children.
In general, chemicals affect the same organ systems in all people who are exposed. A person's reaction depends on several things, including individual health, heredity, previous exposure to chemicals including medicines, and personal habits such as smoking or drinking.
It’s also important to consider the length of exposure to the chemical; the amount of chemical exposure; and whether the chemical was inhaled, touched, or eaten.
CAN A MEDICAL TEST DETERMINE EXPOSURE TO CYANIDE?
Doctors can test urine for "thiocyanate" shortly after exposure to cyanide. Blood levels of cyanide can indicate recent exposure. Cigarette smokers generally have higher levels of cyanide-related compounds in their bodies than non-smokers.
Seek medical advice if you have any symptoms that you think may be related to chemical exposure.

News by (Bernama) - The decision by the Bar Council to sue the government over the May 7 detention of five legal aid lawyers is an attempt to intimidate the enforcement authorities from discharging their duties, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said today.
He said it also showed that the legal practitioners themselves wanted to undermine the country’s legal system.
“The Bar Council is supposed to be a role model. If police enforce the law and among those caught are their (Bar Council) members, they have to accept it."

He was commenting on a resolution passed by the Bar Council at its extraordinary general meeting on Friday to sue the government and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan over the detention of the five lawyers during the candlelight vigil for the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) activist Wong Chin Huat last week.

Anifah Aman Q&A Press Conference In The US

Opposition figure Anwar Ibrahim faces charges again, and I believe a trial later this summer, on charges that the State Department itself in the annual human rights report said are politically motivated. Did you raise his case specifically in your meeting today?

I’d like to address the comment on Anwar Ibrahim. You know, we have utmost faith in our judicial system. And recently, as late as a few days ago, the court has declared that the chief minister of a particular state which comes from the opposition as election of a chief minister which is a rulings against the government.
And insofar as Anwar Ibrahim is concerned, (inaudible) he – we know him very, very well. And he has – more or less, what he has said, especially overseas, most of the things are untrue; for example, like the involvement of our honorable prime minister and the murder of a Mongolian citizen. And he has repeatedly said before the elections that he will provide evidence and yet, until today, he has not given anything.
And also just for the information of the audience here that, you know, he also said that he will form a government on 16 September and he has changed the dates many time. And he was trying to entice the members of parliament. And I was personally offered to jump into the oppositions and offered a very lucrative position, and also to be told it’s like a deputy prime minister. And these are not known to the world at large.
And he has started, you know, trying to buy into other, you know, legislative members. And I think what he is doing – he has not accepted the result of what – the last elections. And we have lost five states and we willingly and accept the people’s verdict. And all the time we leave it to the people to decide, and which, on the other hand has not been able to accept.
And it’s also my concern and that of our government that it is what he has been doing overseas to tarnish the image of Malaysia, which impinge trade and indirectly and directly, you know, bring hardship to the people of Malaysia, which he said he’s very, very concerned about.
And therefore, it is our wish and hope that he will respect the democratic system in Malaysia, which is very open and which, I think, we have conformed to the wish of the people. And we have repeatedly told him that if he believes that he is the rightful prime minister, or his party has been sidetracked, then it is – wait for the next election. And he has continuously gave wrong impressions and accused all the government officials of being corrupted, which is part and parcel of the system (inaudible). And the people have rejected him in Malaysia, and is a proof that he has not been able to accept.
Shin could not understand this. Does he really answer the journalist question? The question was about Anwar sodomy trial as politically motivated and here this moron talk about Najib & Mongolia and Perak Crisis (he's talking about respect the democratic system, my foot). Is it necessary to claim Anwar Ibrahim had entice legislative members over to opposition and he was offered a very lucrative position like a deputy prime minister? He better had proof on this, otherwise be prepared to face defamation suit from Anwar. This is a serious allegation made internationally.

N95 respirators are designed to protect you from breathing in very small particles that may contain viruses. These types of respirators fit tightly to the face so that air is inhaled through the filter material. N95 respirators should be worn only once and then thrown away in the trash.
Manufacturers supply important instructions with respirators on how they are to be put on and checked to make sure they’re properly positioned. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions, specific to the product you’re using.
Here are some general instructions:
• Wash your hands prior to handling the respirator and inspect the respirator for tears or damage. If your respirator is folded, open the folds fully.
• Place the respirator on your face with the nosepiece at your fingertips, allowing the headbands to hang freely below your hand.
• Position the respirator with the nosepiece up. Pull the top strap over your head, resting it high at the back of your head. Pull the bottom strap over your head and position it around the neck and below the ears. Be sure not to criss-cross the straps. If there is only one headband, it should rest high at the back of your head. Make sure that your mouth and nose are covered by the respirator.
• If the nosepiece has a metal nose strip, use both hands to mold the nose strip to the shape of your nose.
• Next, check the seal of the respirator on your face. Place your hands on the surface of the respirator and take a quick, deep breath. If you feel air blowing around your face or eyes, the respirator may not fit your face properly. Re-adjust the fit of your respirator and check the seal again.

When you’re finished wearing the respirator, carefully remove it, using the straps. Discard your respirator by carefully placing it in a waste container. Wash your hands immediately after handling the used respirator.

Hi. I'm Dr. Joe Bresee with the CDC's Influenza Division. I'm here to speak with you today about the symptoms of swine flu infections and what to do if you get sick. Since March 2009, persons with infection caused by a new strain of swine flu virus have been identified in the U.S. and other countries. It's important that people recognize the symptoms of swine flu and seek medical care if necessary.
For many years, we've known that swine flu occasionally infects humans, so we know the typical symptoms of swine flu. The symptoms are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and can include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, or fatigue. Some people with swine flu have also reported diarrhea or vomiting. In the past, severe illness, such as pneumonia or respiratory failure, as well as death has been reported with swine flu infections in people. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.
If you live in an area where swine flu infections have been reported, and if you become ill with flu-like symptoms you may want to contact your health care provider, particularly if you're worried about your symptoms. Your health care provider will determine whether swine flu testing or treatment is needed.
If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, get emergency medical care. In children, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include: fast breathing or trouble breathing, bluish skin color, not drinking enough fluids, not waking up or not interacting, being so irritable that the child does not want to be held, fever with a rash, or flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with fever or worse cough. In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness, confusion, or severe or persistent vomiting.
People with swine flu can infect others and could be contagious as long as they are symptomatic, and possibly for up to seven days following the onset of illness. Children, especially younger children, might potentially be contagious for longer periods.
Fortunately, there are medicines that can be used to treat swine flu. Antiviral drugs are prescription medicines, such as pills, liquids, or an inhaler that fight against the flu by keeping flu viruses from reproducing in your body. If you get sick, antiviral drugs can make your illness milder and can make you feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. For treatment, antiviral drugs work best if started within two days of symptoms. CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir, which is also called Tamiflu®, or zanamivir, which is also called Relenza®, for the treatment or prevention of infection with these swine flu viruses.
If you get sick with swine flu, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to reduce the chance of transmitting the infection. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth because germs can spread that way. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

I'll now discuss the severity of swine flu illness in people. Similar to seasonal flu, swine flu in humans can vary in severity from mild to severe. Between 2005 until January 2009, 12 human cases of swine flu were detected in the United States with no deaths occurring. However, swine flu infection can be serious. In September 1988, a previously healthy 32-year-old pregnant woman in Wisconsin was hospitalized for pneumonia after being infected with swine flu, and she died eight days later. A swine flu outbreak in Fort Dix, New Jersey occurred in 1976 that caused more than 200 cases with severe illness in several people and one death.
Spread of swine flu can occur in two ways. The first way is through contact with infected pigs or environments contaminated with swine flu viruses. The second way is through contact with a person infected with a swine flu virus. Human-to-human spread of swine flu has also been documented and is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu. Influenza is thought to be spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
Next, I would like to tell you about medicines that can be used to treat swine flu. CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir for the treatment and, alternatively, prevention of infection with these swine flu viruses. Antiviral drugs are prescription medicines, such as pills, liquids, or inhaler that fights against the flu by keeping flu viruses from reproducing in your body. If you get sick, antiviral drugs can make your illness milder and can make you feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. For treatment, antiviral drugs work best if started soon after getting sick, specifically within two days of symptoms.
People with swine influenza infection should be considered potentially contagious as long as they are symptomatic, and possibly for up to seven days following the illness onset. Children, especially younger children, might potentially be contagious for longer periods.
There is no vaccine available right now to protect against swine flu. However, there are everyday actions that people can take to help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza. Take these everyday steps to protect your health:
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people. If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth because germs can spread that way.
Now, I will move on to discuss what you should do if you get sick. If you live in an area where swine flu infections have been reported, and if you become ill with influenza-like symptoms, including fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, you may want to contact your health care provider, particularly if you're worried about your symptoms. Your health care provider will determine whether influenza testing or treatment is needed. If you're sick, you should stay home and avoid contact with other people as much as possible to keep from spreading your illness to others.
If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, seek emergency medical care. In children, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include: fast breathing or trouble breathing, bluish skin color, not drinking enough fluids, not waking up or not interacting, being so irritable that the child does not want to be held, fever with a rash, or flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with a fever and worse cough.

• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people. If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Now, I will move on to discuss what you should do if you get sick. If you live in an area where swine flu infections have been reported, and if you become ill with influenza-like symptoms, including fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, you may want to contact your health care provider, particularly if you're worried about your symptoms. Your health care provider will determine whether influenza testing or treatment is needed. If you're sick, you should stay home and avoid contact with other people as much as possible to keep from spreading your illness to others.
If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, seek emergency medical care. In children, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include: fast breathing or trouble breathing, bluish skin color, not drinking enough fluids, not waking up or not interacting, being so irritable that the child does not want to be held, fever with a rash, or flu-like symptoms that improve but then return with a fever and worse cough.
In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness, confusion, and severe or persistent vomiting.
People don't need to worry about eating or preparing pork. Swine influenza viruses are not spread by food. Eating properly handled and cooked pork products is safe.

I set up the video camera on a tripod at about 8pm. Then as Earth Hour approaches, carloads of people showed up suddenly. They swarmed the once tranquil look-out point. It soon became so crowded that people were squeezing too close to the tripod. Expectedly, some idiots kicked the tripod legs accidentally and ruined the entire sequence. I should kick myself for revealing this location to the world in an earlier video.
But the show must go on. Fortunately, I had the Olympus E-3 SLR clamped to the top of my vehicle and it remotely captured some great pics of the voluntary blackout of Kuala Lumpur city. These were combined with the earlier time lapse sequence of the Petronas Twin Towers to form the final video.

Earth Hour 2009 - Sunway Pyramid Malaysia, Countdown Completed (Updated with more videos)
Earth Hour is a global WWF climate change initiative. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:30 PM to show their support for action on climate change. The event began in Sydney in 2007, when 2 million people switched off their lights. In 2008, more than 50 million people around the globe participated. In 2009, Earth Hour aims to reach out to 1 billion people in 1,000 cities.
Earth Hour hit Sunway Pyramid's shore on March 28. The clock ticks at 5.30pm, counting down to 8.30pm where total darkness will eclipse all (exterior facade only) for an hour. So don't panic thinking the mall is out of business.
This video shots below were taken from the padestrian crossing bridge. Shin were on standby at bridge since 7.50pm. Since Shin were early, got into shopping mall to grab a quick bite for dinner. What type of food that is quick and can be taken while on the move, that's right American fast food (1901 Hot dog, 2 regular dog for RM10.00).
Hurried back to the padestrian crossing bridge and munching away 1 dog. Found a good spot to setup tripod for camcoder. Already there were two group of teenager on standby to capture the event on their camera and camcorder. While setting up, Rakyat@Work called and he and his family were on the way to Sunway Pyramid to witness this event too.
Curious passerby who saw us on standby with ours camera ask Shin if there were a fireworks show about to take place at the pyramid? Shin told them about the Earth Hour and most of them stay on to witness the event. This event had somehow created awareness to those around the vicinity.
At 8.30pm, the moment that we are waiting for arrived. The countdown begin over at the main entrance of Sunway Pyramid where the event took place. Shin could not be at both location at the same time to capture the moment. Shin posted this video by WayneLiew90 for those not able to be there, then The countdown completed.

Soon after Shin left and hopped on to joint Rakyat@Work for a ride and witness that most of the neighbourhood in SS15 were in total darkness. Subang Parade, Holiday Villa, Mesiniage and Subang Jaya Medical Center were part of this event too and their exterior facade lights were notably switched off.
Eventhough this 1 hour event had ended but people must realise that this effort to curb global warming is a continous effort and should be observe/practise in our daily life. You may ask, Could Just One Degree Change the World? Well view the video clip below courtesy from NationalGeographic. Lets us all make our planet a better place to live. Getting To Know Batang Ai, Lubok Antu, Sri Aman Part 1.
Geographical Of Batang Ai.
The word "Batang" in Iban means main river and "Ai" means water hence "Batang Ai" means Water River. Batang Ai is a river source on the West Kalimantan side of the border. The state constituency of Batang Ai ia one of the constituencies under Lubok Antu. The other state constituency under Lubok Antu is Engkilili. Lubok Antu is a district in Sri Aman Division.
The name ENGKILILI is a type of tree found abundance in Pekan Engkilili. This tree grow low and bear purple fruits in stalk. Pekan Engkilili were believed to adopt it's name from this tree.
How Lubok Antu Got Her Name.
The History of District Lubok Antu is unique. Based on the folklore tales from the local residence, that:-
Once a upon a time there were two brothers name Chiri dan Jampi. One day, they went to Ngamboh parang (Nempek parang). While on the way back from ngamboh, they stumble upon Bunga Nuing (an Angel - Orang Panggau atau Kayangan).
Bunga Nuing challenge both of them to a duel on the sharpness of their dagger (parang). In that duel Bunga Nuing slash (mansap/menetak) a rock at bank of the pond (Lubok). Ever since that faithful event, the whole district had been known as Lubok Antu because Bunga Nuing who slashed that rock were no ordinary human and the locals believes at that time that pond was haunted.
The Rock That Bunga Nuing Slashed Which Exist Till This Day.
How to go to Batang Ai?
The journey to Batang Ai from Kuching is long and diffficult (about 250km), especially for independent travellers. Express buses leave for Sri Aman at 0800 and 1300 (RM15, one way). Buses to Batang Ai via Lubok Antu cost an additional few Ringgit and the journey take about 4 hours.
For those self drive, go to Kuching-Serian highway (pass by 10th mile bazaar) to Serian.
Once you are at Serian roundabout, turn left(9 o'clock turn) - bypass Serian town, and you will reach a small roundabout. Turn left (9 o'clock turn) and you are on your way to Sri Aman (bypassing Sungai Tenggang, Lachau).
Once you reach the junction to Sri Aman, turn right and you will pass by Engkilili junction. Continue and you will reach Lubok Antu junction. Turn in till you see the sign Batang Ai. Thats the only road leading to Lubok Antu.
Pekan Engkilili is about 56 Km from Pekan Lubok Antu, 37 Km from Bandar Sri Aman and 210 Km from Kuching city.

Accommodation.
Shin was told that accommodation in Pekan Lubok Antu of about eleven rooms had been all taken up by PR. BN left with no accommodation, thus they had made arrangement to stay in government quarters.
The nearest pekan to Lubok Antu is Pekan Engkilili (56km). One can stay in Pekan Engkilili Rumah Rehat (Rest House) which is the only available accommodation in Pekan Engkilili. This Rumah Rehat manage by Pejabat Daerah Kecil Engkilili consist of 3 bedroom (1 VIP Room and 2 normal room), guest lounge, dining area dan kitchen. Booking can be made at Pejabat Daerah Kecil Engkilili.
Engkilili Rest House.
The next nearest pekan is Betong (probably around 45 min drive). Shin was told that there is accomodation but not sure how many rooms are available.
The nearest town is Bandar Sri Aman (abt 93km) from Lubok Antu. There are plenty of hotels here. Shin had enquire that there is internet access facilities and room rate for single bed ranges from RM35.00 to RM55.00 / night. Shin is a Lone Ranger coz Tanto were up in Bukit Gantang/Bukit Selembau and will be staying in Sri Aman.

VOTE EARTH
YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE
This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.
We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.
VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour.

Imagine a major part of Kuala Lumpur turning its lights out almost simultaneously for one hour. On Saturday, March 28 2009, Malaysia will be taking part in a global movement to stand united with 1000 cities for Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (local time). Launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is aimed at promoting awareness to fight against climate change. We do our little bit by turning off our lights.
The Fairly Current Show speaking with Earth Hour Malaysia ambassador Yasmin Ahmad about the series of events planned leading up to March 28, as well as finding out what she will be doing for that one hour of darkness. Yasmin Ahmad is a filmmaker and Creative Director of Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur.

Baby's Nightmare.

PJ Vigil Week 23 - 15/03/2009
This is our 4th Indoor Vigil. Anak Bangsa Malaysia T-Shirt were introduce to all and up for sales at RM20.00/pc with all sizes, Baby-T, S, M, L, XL, XXL. Those interested to own one can contact Ee Chia.

PJ Vigil Week 22 - 08/03/2009.
It's been week 22nd since the 1st Vigil at Padang Timur opposite Amcorp Mall. Our last out door vigil was on 15th February 2009 (Week 19), where the police have set up road-block as early as 7.30pm on the road leading to the Tarmac Area (our usual vigil venue) to prevent diehard vigilers from assembling there. As such most of us adjourned to Lotus for drinks and fellowship. Week 20th (22/02/2009) and Week 21st (01/03/2009) vigil were held at Lotus function room.
There were mix reaction from the vigilers for having indoor vigils. Some says that we had lost the feel and atmosphere of comradeship/unity. Shin agreed to a certain extent(really misses those candle light) but what choice does we have? While others says that the police had actually pushes us to re-strategise our approach in our struggle to repeal the ISA, and it does. We are now had mature and we are more organised and focus in our struggle.
One of the SB gave credit to us being the most resiliance and sustained the longest period todate as far as protest is concern. No doubt we are not able to hold candle in public area, but each and every one of us over these 22 weeks has this little flame still burning in our heart eventhough we were confine indoor.

Internal Security Act 1960 (Act 82)
An Act to provide for:
- the internal security of Malaysia
- preventive detention
- the prevention of subversion
- the suppression of organised violence against persons and property in specified areas of MAlaysia.
Preamble to ISA
Wheras action has been taken and further action is threatened by a substantial body of persons both inside and outside Malaysia.
(1) To cause, and to cause a substantial number of citizens to fear, organized violence against persons and property; and
(2) To procure the alteration, otherwise than by lawful means, of the lawful Government of Malaysia by law established;
* AND WHEREAS the action taken and threatened is prejudicial to the security of MAlaysia;
* AND WHEREAS Parliament considers it necessary to stop or prevent that action;
PROVISIONS
* Prohibition of Organisations and Associations of a Political or Quasi-Military Character and Uniforms
* Powers of Preventive Detention
* Special Powers relating to Subversive Publications
* Control of Entertainments and Exhibitions
* Other Powers for the Prevention of Subversion
* Special Provisions relating to Security Areas
What is ISA?
* ISA is a preventive detention law in force in Malaysia.
* Any person may be detained by the police for up to 60 days without trial for an act which allegedly prejudices the security of the country.
* After 60 days, one may be further detained for a period of two years each, to be approved by the Minister of Home Affairs, thus making indefinite detention without trial.
Why Did The ISA Become Law?
* The precursor to the ISA was the Emergency Regulations 1948-1960 promugated by the British Colonial Regime to counter the then Communist Insurgence.
* The Emergency Ordinance was repealed on 31 July 1960.
* The ISA came into force on 1st August 1960.
Why Was The ISA Introduced?
* When the ISA was introduced in 1960, solemn promises were made in Parliament that the law will be used judiciously and only against communists, terrorists and subversives.
The Deputy Prime Minister (Tun Abdul Razak): 21 June 1960
" The Hon'ble Prime Minister and other Members of the Government, including myself, have made it quite clear on a number of occasions that, because the Emergency is to be declared at an end, the Government does not intend to relax its vigilance against the evil enemy who still remains as a threat on our border and who is now attempting by subversion to succeed where he has failed by force of arms. It is for this reason that this bill is before the house. It has two main aims:
* Firstly to counter subversion thoughout country and,
* Secondly, to enable the necessary measures to be taken on the border area to counter."

"Let me make it quite clear once again that the object of detention is to safeguard the security of the country and not to punish persons for crime. A person is detained for what it is considered be may reasonably be expected to try to do but not for what he is proved beyond doubt to have done. He is detained because he represents a risk to the security of the country and not because he is a member of a lawful political party.
The Government has no desire whatsoever to hinder healthy democratic opposition in any way. This is a democratic country and the Government intends to maintain it is such. It is the enemies of democracy who will be detained."
Enche' D.R. Seenivasagam (Ipoh):
"Mr Speaker, Sir, the very strong objections to this Bill are on a number of grounds:
(1) preventive detention without proper safeguards;
(2) the Bill encompasses not only organised violence but it encompasses every citizen in this country, whether peaceful or otherwise;
(3) powers given to the Police are so wide, so terrifying, that every citizen of this country will be in constant fear, in constant and absolute fear throughout the days of his life so long as this Bill remains law"
"You pass this Bill, but remember that one day somebody else, perhaps, not as democratic as you are, may be sitting on that very Bench; and when that time comes you - perhaps not you but the children of those who today support this Bill - will say "My God! we regret the day we introduced this Bill into this House."
